Thanks Tim! the 1st and 5th strings are spaced perfectly in the middle over the arch between the feet, while the 2nd-4th strings are noticeably (a couple thousandths) off center toward the 5th string. The tone, color, and feel have all been dramatically improved. Steve adjusted the head tension, changed a few strings to different gauges and installed one of his compensated bridges. I have seen a great many older prewar banjos and conversions that use his bridges, and I now can see why. Its a fairly new addition to my arsenal, and Ive spent a bit of time trying to pin down a sound using various bridges (and toying with the other customary variables). I really like the design of his bridges and the thickness is very good (they have enough mass, but not to heavy, nor to thin) The maple grain always runs nice and straight and most of them have very few growth lines in the wood (which I feel is the key to good sound transfer like a spruce top on a guitar) I would highly recommend you to try one of his bridges if haven't yet (their awesome).
